Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

The Culinary Assistant plays a vital role in the preparation of meals and the upkeep of kitchen operations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares food in accordance with the menu and the number of individuals being served, ensuring compliance with local, state, and national food safety standards.
  • Assists in the serving of meals.
  • Follows all state regulations regarding food safety and proper handling procedures, while maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas.
  • Maintains and cleans dining and kitchen facilities.
  • Operates dishwashing machinery effectively.
  • Inspects and cleans service equipment as needed.
  • Assists in the organization and storage of supplies.
  • Supervises and guides culinary students in proper food preparation and storage techniques.
  • Supports the supervision of leisure time employees and work-based learning initiatives.

Note: This job description is not exhaustive. Employees may be required to perform additional related duties to meet the organization's ongoing needs.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Understanding of safety and sanitation standards in food preparation and storage.
  • Familiarity with methods of cooking and serving food.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen utensils and equipment usage.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read and write fluently in English.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred experience of at least 3 months in a related field.

OTHER:

  • Must possess ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain it.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
