Job Overview

Position Title: Lead Person – Tech Weld

Direct Reports: All associates within the department

Reports to: Supervisor / Assistant Supervisor

Exemption Status: Non-exempt

Purpose of the Role:

The primary responsibility of the Lead Person is to oversee a team of employees engaged in assigned tasks. This role ensures that all workers meet their job requirements while maintaining accurate employee time and certification records. The Lead Person is also responsible for enforcing safety regulations and executing additional tasks as directed by the shop supervisor within the following area:

  • Tech Weld Shop

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute the welding process and adjust equipment based on the specific type of weld required.
  2. Regulate gas pressure, select appropriate torch tips, and apply pre and post heating as necessary to weld various joint types in multiple positions.
  3. Perform welding on materials such as mild steel, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, and their alloys through fusion and adhesion, as well as braze and solder ferrous and nonferrous metals.
  4. Utilize jigs, clamps, and positioners, and select the correct electrode for tasks.
  5. Receive and execute job assignments from the supervisor as instructed.
  6. Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and assess maintenance needs.
  7. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure job completion as required.
  8. Maintain steady hand and arm movements while performing tasks.
  9. Exhibit close-range vision to ensure precision in job functions.
  10. Quickly adjust machine or vehicle controls to exact specifications.
  11. Demonstrate the ability to swiftly manipulate objects using hands and arms.
  12. Perform advanced welding techniques including 6G6 on steel and aluminum materials.
  13. Maintain certification in three-position A361/2" plate by stick welding.

Work Environment:

This role involves regular outdoor work under varying weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, and may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, and vibrations.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type:

This is a full-time role with standard working hours from Monday to Friday. The position may require extended hours and weekend work as necessary. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is essential for fulfilling the job's core functions.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is primarily local during business hours, with occasional out-of-area and overnight travel expected.
