Job Description

Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a highly skilled Superintendent to support a project in Norfolk, VA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and manage projects, including scheduling, engineering, fabrication, material control, logistics, and purchases.
  • Interface with clients and other contractors, providing technical assistance as required.
  • Direct and coordinate technical personnel to ensure compliance with established procedures, restrictions, and standards.
  • Work closely with the Director to plan and schedule production operations, establish priorities, and sequences of work for projects.
  • Manage project resource allocation, provide direction and support to project teams, and monitor productivity.
  • Draft Condition Reports and submit requisitions for materials and subcontracts.
  • Responsible for interviewing Welders and working with HR to process applicants.
  • Maintain log of welder's certifications and badging.
  • Manage timecards, including customer timesheet approvals.
  • Provide a definitive plan, leadership, and technical guidance to all team members.
  • Meet with supervisors and employees throughout the day to exchange status updates.
  • Review and accept work packages, ensuring jobs are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and with no rework.
  • Arrange and coordinate outside vendors working within the shop.
  • Maintain weekly job assignment reports.
  • Efficiently manage shop overtime.
  • Monitor backlog and adjust department work schedules accordingly.
Requirements:
  • At least 10 years' experience in heavy industrial/marine fabrication construction, project management, planning, estimating, and contract negotiations.
  • At least 5 years' experience in project analysis, take-off, and estimating in industrial heavy fabrication projects.
  • At least 5 years' experience with contracts management, scheduling, man loading, and change order negotiation.
  • At least 5 years' experience in problem-solving and contract administration.
  • Independent judgment with an ability to anticipate production issues in advance.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge in welding, fitting, and burning processes, coatings (marine and structural) processes, construction manufacturing processes, materials, and costing methods.
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy fabrication and welding methods, materials, and practices.
  • Experience in computerized estimating, planning, charting systems.
  • Working knowledge of engineering and design concepts.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, AISC, and ASME code/certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of CNC and manual machining is preferred.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability.
  • Steady, reliable worker with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work independently to complete responsibilities.
Security Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a TWIC Card.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
  • Must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes.
  • Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
  • Able to perform other duties as required, which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts, and man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions.
  • Frequent use of respirator.
  • Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
