Job Summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Trade Compliance Specialist to join our Global Trade Compliance Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring global trade compliance, with a focus on supporting compliance in terms of exports from and imports to the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance and deployment of the VIAVI Trade Compliance policy and supporting procedures.
  • Train others in the relevant procedures.
  • Review sales orders and manage various kinds of export compliance issues, such as export license determinations; licenses and approvals and ensure proper end-user documentation is obtained and verified.
  • Prepare, audit, submit, and administer BIS and ITAR export licenses.
  • Prepare, maintain, and administer technology assistance agreements (TAAs).
  • Keep thorough records for all BIS and ITAR export licenses and license exemptions/exceptions.
  • Review change orders in Agile regarding classification.
  • Vet employees, contractors, and contract manufacturers and provide ITAR/EAR6 access in Agile.
  • Help classify technology and goods for import and export, assign USML, ECCN, and HTSUS, assist in drafting commodity classification requests, and commodity jurisdiction requests for submission to BIS and DDTC.
  • Keep DDTC Registration current and up-to-date.
  • Provide guidance regarding import and export regulatory requirements and procedures.
  • Create and maintain trade compliance documents, including work instructions and procedures.
  • Provide clearance information to and assess the accuracy and timeliness of import filings from our Customs broker(s).
  • Review and release export holds in our Trade Compliance Program (One Source) in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of import/export control training materials and conduct internal training to key personnel on trade compliance matters.
  • Maintain records for and submit reports to various government agencies to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the auditing of export shipments on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in analyzing and providing ongoing improvements to VIAVI's import/export processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.
  • Relevant professional experience in Trade Compliance.
  • Understanding of government regulations with a primary focus on International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Customs requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry practices and standards related to U.S. Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) and Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) licensing and classification.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to communicate and interact at all levels and support decision-making based on credible knowledge of International Trade.
  • Ability to easily understand complex technical products.
  • Experience with an enterprise-class ERP system desirable (Oracle preferred) and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other standard office tools.
