Position Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Buying Manager, as the Buyer for Educational Materials, your primary focus will be on managing our product categories to not only meet but exceed customer expectations while achieving all relevant commercial objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Meeting all purchasing, financial, and commercial goals for assigned range budgets, including achieving the range P&L targets.
- Setting and managing all selling prices for the product range, negotiating cost pricing, and ensuring that P&L and budget targets are realistic and attainable.
- Collaborating with teams across Merchandising, Marketing, Digital, and Sales to enhance trading performance and contribute positively to trading discussions.
- Conducting supplier negotiations and managing commercial agreements that support the achievement of KPIs. Establishing and nurturing long-term supplier relationships while identifying new suppliers aligned with our procurement strategy.
- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the market landscape, competition, and customer needs through direct engagement with educational institutions.
- Delivering a well-rounded, market-leading selection of educational products by engaging with customers and considering commercial performance, market trends, and brand objectives.
- Adapting the product range to align with evolving customer and commercial requirements, collaborating with the New Product Development team as necessary.
- Working closely with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with ethical sourcing standards and product quality specifications.
- Implementing a digital-first strategy for product promotion, partnering with Marketing to create a clear activity plan for the category.
- Overseeing the development and performance of Assistant Buyers to ensure that objectives and KPIs are consistently met.
- Ensuring accurate product setup and data integrity across all relevant systems.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Previous experience in a similar role within a fast-paced procurement environment.
- A degree-level education, preferably with professional qualifications (CIPS).
- A demonstrated interest in education, with knowledge of or a willingness to learn about educational curricula.
- Strong commercial acumen with a proven ability to drive profitable growth through effective procurement strategies.
- Experience managing P&L and budgets, along with a solid understanding of commercial contracts and trading terms.
- Exceptional negotiation skills.
- A results-oriented mindset with the ability to challenge existing processes and lead change initiatives.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Experience supporting digital growth within a procurement context is preferred.
