Position Overview:As the Lead Employment Counsel, you will serve as the primary authority on employment law issues for Grainger's Legal, Human Resources, and operational teams. Reporting directly to the Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment, this role merges legal acumen with practical guidance in a dynamic environment, necessitating a hybrid work model with a requirement for in-office presence.
Your Responsibilities:- Provide expert counsel on federal and state employment regulations, advising on matters such as recruitment, performance evaluations, disciplinary measures, discrimination claims, and internal inquiries.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources to manage administrative complaints, demand letters, and potential legal disputes, including engagements with regulatory bodies.
- Offer strategic advice on compliance with employment laws and assist in formulating policies and practices related to workforce matters.
- Foster positive relationships, identify emerging trends, and recommend solutions that align with Grainger's business goals.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active admission to the state bar
- 8+ years of post-J.D. experience in employment law, preferably within a corporate or law firm context, focusing on client counseling and litigation management.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, maintain integrity, and communicate effectively.
- Skills in influencing teams, adapting to a fast-paced environment, and balancing legal risks in strategic decision-making.
