The Deputy Director, EMA, plays a critical role in ensuring the County's emergency management operations are effective and efficient. This position assists the Director, EMA, in coordinating and managing the activities of operational and administrative staff engaged in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs assigned staff, providing guidance, training, and counseling as needed.
  • Assists in coordinating and directing departmental operations, including emergency planning, training, and exercises.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive plans, procedures, and systems to ensure an effective response to emergencies and disasters.
  • Coordinates training programs for internal and external agencies, including public safety training and exercise programs.
  • Communicates with senior elected officials, municipal and County government officials, business leaders, and community groups to promote emergency preparedness and response efforts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in public safety, emergency management, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in emergency management or response, public safety, or a related field, including three years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) or completion of the New Directors' Academy within six months of appointment.
