About the Position

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Instructional Support Professional to join our team at Richmond Public Schools. In this role, you will provide essential support to our teachers and students, ensuring a high-quality education for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional assistance to students in a specialized subject area, working closely with teachers to develop and implement individualized learning plans.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including preparation of materials, reinforcement of material already presented, and provision of additional support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and participation, including files and reports.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement curriculum development programs, ensuring alignment with state and federal standards.
  • Support students with mobility needs, providing assistance with toileting, changing diapers, and personal hygiene as required.
  • Escorts students when necessary and restrains out-of-control students when necessary, prioritizing student safety and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, students, and parents, promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or completion of 60 hours of college credits from an accredited institution recognized by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • Minimum one year of experience as an instructional assistant preferred, with experience working with children with disabilities highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and public relations skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently.
  • Basic mathematical calculations and proficiency in business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation required.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment.
