Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater Services

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is on the lookout for a dedicated Project Engineer to enhance our Water/Wastewater division in our Phoenix, Arizona office. Our team comprises seasoned professionals committed to delivering exceptional services to our clients.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The successful applicant will possess over 5 years of comprehensive experience in water and wastewater system design. We seek individuals who are eager to engage in a variety of tasks supporting diverse project types and managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate as a vital member of a water/wastewater design team under the guidance of various Project Managers.
  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
    • Assisting in the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects of varying complexity.
    • Creating plan documents and supporting design calculations.
    • Developing detailed construction drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
    • Ensuring high-quality output and maintaining quality assurance protocols.
    • Overseeing the technical components of multiple projects.
    • Coordinating with other disciplines, support services, and subconsultants.
    • Engaging with governmental agencies, utility providers, and other external organizations.
    • Interfacing with clients based on project responsibilities.
    • Identifying relevant codes, standards, and design requirements.
    • Drafting technical specifications and cost estimates.
    • Conducting field reviews and assessments for design purposes.
    • Participating in contract bidding, providing limited oversight during construction, and reviewing submittals and RFIs.
    • Representing clients and the firm in discussions with governmental entities.
    • Establishing and tracking milestones to ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery.
    • Making independent decisions regarding various project issues and methodologies.
    • Mentoring and supervising less experienced engineers and technical support staff.
    • Managing personal workload while overseeing junior staff's tasks.
    • Upholding the division, regional, and company values, policies, and practices within the service.
    • Leading by example, demonstrating sound judgment, integrity, and professionalism.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Arizona or eligible to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience in designing sanitary sewer systems, rehabilitation, pump stations, and/or potable water pipelines, storage, and pumping systems.
  • Proficiency in open channel and pressure flow modeling, along with report generation.
