Introduction

The Senior Hydrology Engineer role is primarily responsible for conducting professional engineering evaluations of private development and municipal infrastructure projects concerning stormwater management. This position also involves overseeing drainage and flood control assessments, managing floodplain regulations, and providing technical support to various city departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in the design, assessment, or oversight of stormwater, drainage, and hydrology/hydraulics projects.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be considered.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration through reciprocity within six months of employment.
  • A Certified Floodplain Manager credential from the Association of State Floodplain Managers is required within 18 months of hire.
  • All employees of the City of Scottsdale must reside in the State of Arizona during their active employment.
Essential Functions

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on plans, reports, and other documentation for preliminary and final development and infrastructure proposals, assessing impacts on city facilities and private properties.
  • Representing the City in discussions with engineers, developers, property owners, and architects to address and resolve issues related to development proposals and plans.
  • Serving as a technical reviewer for Area Drainage Master Studies/Plans, drainage and flood control studies, design concept reports, and capital improvement projects, participating in related project meetings.
  • Evaluating complex stormwater management systems for proposed new developments.
  • Implementing floodplain management principles in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency regulations and the City's Stormwater and Floodplain Management Ordinance.
  • Conducting technical reviews of hydrologic models such as HEC-1 / HEC-HMS / FLO-2D.
  • Conducting technical reviews of hydraulic models such as HEC-2 / HEC-RAS / FLO-2D.
  • Performing technical reviews of scour and sediment transport evaluations and models, serving as a primary contact for stormwater and drainage concerns throughout the City.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Most work is conducted in an office environment.
  • Travel may be required for meetings, field visits, and various other locations.
