About the Position

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified part-time instructor to teach in our Diesel Technology program. As an adjunct faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses, including diesel engine repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach courses in diesel technology, including diesel engine repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain diesel-related systems.
  • Plan and develop program courses appropriate to the diesel program goals.
  • Teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college.
  • Develop and maintain classroom and lab procedures, including safety, that follow local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means.
  • Evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, and provide clear, timely feedback.
  • Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in the assigned teaching field and technical field.
  • Develop and maintain industry and community support for diesel and transportation programs.
  • Be familiar with and advance the college's mission, vision, and goals and how they relate to academic and technical programs.
Qualifications
  • Two years full-time related industry work experience required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in current diesel technology related to diagnosis and repair.
  • Industry certifications strongly preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a state professional-technical certificate to teach in the technical area.
  • Valid First Aid certificate required.
  • Recent college teaching experience and experience with various teaching methods preferred.
  • Ability to use computer technology as a component of instructional delivery required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience in and commitment to working with undergraduate education strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to participate on college, division, or department committees.
  • Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations.
