Medical Support Assistant

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a Medical Support Assistant to join their team. This role is a crucial part of the healthcare system, providing administrative support to clinical colleagues and ensuring the proper and timely treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide receptionist, customer service, and administrative duties to ensure the proper and timely treatment of patients.
- Maintain appointment schedules, scheduling, rescheduling, and cancelling appointments.
- Provide administrative support to clinical colleagues, including manual and electronic data entry, reviewing and updating patient demographics, and insurance verification.
- Receive and direct phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determining the nature of requests and providing the information desired without violating privacy rules and established clinic processes.
- Request medical records from community healthcare facilities and monitor intra and inter facility consults through completion.
- Contact patients with appointment reminders.
Monday - Friday; 8am - 4:30pm

- Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays per year.

- Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full-time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.
- Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
- Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
- You must be a U.S. citizen.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j.
GS-3 Medical Support Assistant (Entry Level): Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
GS-4 Medical Support Assistant (Developmental Level): One year of experience in clerical or office work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position or two years of education above high school.
GS-5 (Full Performance Level): One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or 4 years of education above high school.
