POSITION SUMMARY:

This role supports the Safety Manager in crafting and executing corporate safety initiatives and protocols, while also assisting with the operational aspects of the Safety Department. The Specialist will aid Division Managers in adhering to DOT, FMCSR, OSHA, and other safety regulations to foster a secure, healthy, and incident-free workplace.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Investigate and document accidents/incidents, ensuring all necessary reports and paperwork are completed.
  • Assist the Safety Manager with departmental operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations among employees.
  • Address and investigate unsafe driving reports.
  • Coordinate programs aimed at substance abuse prevention.
  • Conduct and document interviews following accidents.
  • Implement and oversee substance abuse prevention and screening initiatives.
  • Manage drug and alcohol testing programs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain a database for screenings and act as a liaison with third-party testers.
  • Prepare and submit substance reports in line with DOT and contractual obligations.
  • Foster strong relationships with local law enforcement and emergency services, reporting hazardous conditions and vandalism.
  • Conduct safety audits and meetings.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours safety incidents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications are necessary to effectively perform the essential functions of this position in both office and field settings. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.

  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Preferred experience of 3 years in a safety-related field.
  • Transportation industry experience is a plus.
  • Experience in investigating accidents/incidents.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Proficient in computer use, including spreadsheets and professional writing.
  • Problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Capability to manage confidential information.
  • Possession of a valid CDL license or willingness to obtain one.
  • Excellent driving record.
EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or a related field, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
