Position Overview:
As a vital contributor to MITRE's Systems Engineering division, you will engage closely with mission experts, engineers, and government representatives to address complex systems engineering challenges essential to national security.

Role Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and evaluating sophisticated system architectures utilizing industry-standard languages such as SysML/UML.
  • Assessing and contrasting alternative architectures through qualitative and quantitative methods, providing insights to guide decision-making.
  • Identifying and articulating significant uncertainties within system architectures, along with associated risks and opportunities, and developing strategies to mitigate and leverage them.
  • Supporting requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes to ensure alignment with evolving mission needs.
  • Collaborating closely with government sponsors and internal teams to pinpoint critical engineering challenges and devise effective solutions.
  • Applying systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-based decision-making by sponsors, ensuring the delivery of high-value capabilities.
  • Encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization, utilizing diverse perspectives and solutions to tackle sponsor challenges.
  • Communicating complex technical analyses and recommendations clearly and concisely through written and verbal channels to sponsors and partners.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates typically possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • A solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and system-of-systems architecture.
  • Familiarity with tools and methodologies commonly used in systems engineering, including SysML/UML, Cameo, MagicDraw, and Rhapsody.
  • Experience interacting with various levels of government and military leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • An active DOD Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with the following qualifications will be given preference:

  • A Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience in systems engineering principles, tools, and methodologies, particularly in defense or national security applications; or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience.
  • A proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for government agencies.
  • Advanced expertise in systems engineering, including system architecture design and analysis, model-based systems engineering principles, and systems integration.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering and artificial intelligence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex challenges.
