About the Role

Cornell University is seeking a highly skilled Facilities Designer to join our team in the Division of Facilities and Campus Services. As a Facilities Designer, you will play a critical role in providing technical expertise and stewardship in support of the Cornell built environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop construction documents, including CAD/BIM drawings, for various civil and structural systems, including building structures, site utilities/infrastructure, bridges, parking structures, and system assessments.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines, including Architecture and Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Environmental and Energy Engineering, to deliver effective and efficient full-range professional engineering services in support of university-wide construction and renovation projects.
  • Prepare and review designs, specifications, and estimates for construction projects, ensuring compliance with university standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders on design and construction-related matters.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of design and construction standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with design and construction standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 2+ years of experience in multi-discipline design and construction, preferably in a university or academic setting.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD, as well as other design and construction software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and contractors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3+ years of experience in multi-discipline design and construction, preferably in a university or academic setting.
  • Technical knowledge of design and construction industries, including building codes, zoning regulations, and sustainability standards.
  • Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Asana.
