Acute Care Surgery Experienced Advanced Practice Provider

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a key member of the Acute Care Surgery team, providing patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. The APP will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to manage the care of patients in the Acute Care Surgery/Emergency General Surgery setting.
Key Responsibilities- Perform medical history, physical examinations, and routine assessments to determine treatment plans for surgical patients.
- Independently round on pre- and post-operative patients, evaluate inpatient, emergent, and ICU consults, and determine appropriateness for surgery.
- First assist in various emergency general surgery cases and elective general surgery cases, including laparoscopic procedures and open abdominal cases.
- Independently evaluate new patient consults, follow-ups, and post-operative patients in clinic 2-3 days per week.
- Opportunity to train, precept, and mentor APP fellows, medical students, and PA/NP students.
- Document all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a timely and medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
- Act as a patient and family advocate for the population served.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement priorities, service delivery processes, and service excellence initiatives.
- Adhere to access & productivity policies & protocols to ensure that patients access to convenient care is optimized.
- Adhere to standards and care protocols to deliver appropriate, innovative, and cost-effective care management in-person and virtually.
- Actively and regularly participate in assigned meetings/committees.

Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program is required. Eligibility for licensure to practice as a NP or PA in the state of practice is also required. Eligibility for prescriptive privileges and DEA license is required. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA is required. Maintenance of Certification is required.
- Nurse practitioners are required to have a Master's degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Certification from a nationally recognized certifying body for the population served is required.
- Physician Assistants are required to have a Master's degree and certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
The APP will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to respond to age-specific issues and data reflective of the patients' status. The APP will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the following age groups:

Protected Health InformationThe APP will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job. The APP will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
ReportingThis position reports directly to their collaborating physician and/or APP leader.
NP: Master's degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. ACNP or AGACNP board certification required based on population served.
PA: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
