Job Overview:
An individual in this role provides essential assistance to a designated student throughout the academic day. The position involves a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at supporting both the student and the educator in the educational process. Decision-making skills are crucial for determining the most appropriate actions to take in various situations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as a caregiver to ensure the comfort and needs of the assigned student are met, which may include assistance with feeding, toileting, and lifting.
2. Collaborate with the student’s teachers to foster an effective learning environment.
3. Provide tailored instruction and guidance to the student.
4. Demonstrate instructional activities to enhance the student’s understanding and engagement with the curriculum.
5. Keep the student focused on tasks and celebrate their achievements.
6. Assist in collecting data and reporting the student’s progress to the teacher.
7. Help manage student behavior as needed.
8. Monitor transportation for students requiring specialized services.
Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of the diverse needs of students at various developmental stages.
- Familiarity with educational practices and methodologies.
- Commitment to learning about Craven County Schools’ policies and relevant laws.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication, including translation and interpretation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
Physical Requirements:
Work involves standing, sitting, and walking. The role requires effective communication abilities, including speech, vision, and hearing, as well as manual dexterity for various tasks. Physical activities may include bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, and the capacity to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds. The position may involve exposure to moving machinery, temperature fluctuations, and environmental elements.
