Job Purpose
The individual in this role is responsible for providing assistance to a designated student throughout the school day. A diverse range of responsibilities are undertaken to support both the student and the educator in the educational process. Decisions are made based on sound judgment to determine the most appropriate actions to take.
Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable):
Key Responsibilities
- Acts as a caregiver to meet the comfort and needs of the assigned student, which may include assistance with feeding, toileting, and lifting.
- Collaborates with the student's educators to foster an effective learning environment.
- Provides tailored instruction and guidance to the student.
- Demonstrates various instructional strategies to enhance the student's understanding and engagement with the curriculum.
- Ensures the student remains focused on tasks.
- Recognizes and celebrates the student's achievements.
- Assists in gathering data and reporting on the student's progress to the teacher.
- Helps manage student behavior effectively.
- Monitors transportation for students requiring specialized services as necessary.
- Understanding of the diverse needs of students across various ages and developmental stages.
- Familiarity with educational practices, processes, and methodologies.
- Willingness to learn about the policies and regulations of Craven County Schools, as well as relevant federal and state laws.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including translation and interpretation skills.
- Proficient in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
- Engages in professional development opportunities provided by the District.
- Participates in annual CPI certification training.
Work is conducted in various positions including standing, sitting, and walking. The role requires effective communication abilities, including speech, vision, and hearing, as well as manual dexterity for tasks requiring fine motor skills. The position involves physical activities such as bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, and the capacity to lift, carry, push, or pull weights up to 50 pounds. The individual in this role may encounter moving machinery, fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
