Position Summary:
The Facility Maintenance and Transportation Specialist will work under the supervision of the Senior Director of Facilities and Transportation. This role is vital in ensuring a clean and safe environment for the youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain. Your dedication to maintaining the facilities and providing safe transportation significantly impacts the comfort and well-being of our young members. By fostering a welcoming atmosphere, you help create a space where children can learn, engage, and flourish. Your responsibilities as a bus operator extend beyond mere transportation; they enhance the overall positive experience for the kids at the Boys & Girls Club.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and order in facilities, including floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, and windows.
  • Properly dispose of waste in line with organizational protocols.
  • Set up and arrange furniture for various program activities.
  • Assist youth, program staff, and other personnel as directed by the supervisor.
  • Support building maintenance tasks, such as replacing glass, cleaning gutters, and repairing furniture.
  • Transport supplies and equipment as needed by program staff.
  • Operate heating, lighting, ventilation, and electrical systems as required.
  • Perform routine lubrication and minor preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct inventory checks for custodial supplies.
  • Participate in the key maintenance program.
  • Manage security and fire safety systems.
  • Inspect facilities and report any issues.
  • Monitor the property to prevent trespassing, vandalism, and fire hazards, coordinating with authorities as necessary.
  • Order custodial supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a valid bus license and accept driving assignments as required.
  • Safely operate organizational vehicles, including buses, in compliance with traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers, particularly youth participants, during transportation.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to confirm it is in good working order.
  • Assist passengers, including youth, with safe boarding and exiting of the bus.
  • Keep the bus interior clean and organized, performing regular cleaning and sanitization.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff regarding transportation schedules and any operational issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents during transportation.
  • Attend training sessions to stay updated on transportation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with program staff to coordinate transportation for events and activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to passengers and represent the organization positively in the community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to drive a bus safely and efficiently
  • Valid North Carolina State CDL Class B
  • (P) Passenger and (S) School bus Endorsements on CDL License

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with children
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Climb or balance.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include depth perception and the ability to see color.
