Job Overview

Position Summary

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating manufacturing operations within an industrial setting, with a particular emphasis on the mechanics value stream. This role involves a variety of critical tasks aimed at enhancing production efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute projects focused on localizing production activities.
  • Design and optimize production lines utilizing Lean principles and other established manufacturing techniques.
  • Track and implement value stream KPIs through the PDCA methodology, using these metrics to reduce inefficiencies and enhance product quality.
  • Present value stream KPIs during daily PDCA meetings, providing detailed insights into performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with operators and management to drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Value Stream.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in optimal condition, operational, and calibrated according to the specifications set by Engineering, Quality, and Operations.
  • Develop, review, and maintain all technical production standards and documentation.
  • Oversee the creation and management of bill of materials.
  • Manage process routing, including the verification of routings through time studies.
  • Prepare project proposals with comprehensive financial justifications.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure effective management of resources.
  • Utilize formal troubleshooting and problem-solving methodologies to address issues.
  • Exhibit self-motivation and productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to acquire new skills and participate in training programs as necessary.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited institution and over five years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering capacity are required.

Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, G-Suite) is essential.

Familiarity with solid modeling and AutoCAD 2D drawing or equivalent is preferred.

Experience with ERP systems is advantageous.

Expertise in Lean Manufacturing methodologies, including SMED, EPEI, PFEP, Kanban, and Glenday Sieve/flow is necessary.

Advanced knowledge of SMT processes is expected.

Language Proficiency

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, along with technical writing capabilities.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

Engineering-level mathematical skills are necessary, with the ability to apply reasoning to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

Certifications

Lean Expert industry training and Six Sigma (white/yellow) certifications are required, with a preference for Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Physical Requirements

Good manual dexterity is essential. The role requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs regularly. Frequent use of hands to handle or manipulate objects, tools, or controls is also necessary.

The salary range for this position is between $96,000 and $112,000 annually.
