Job Description

At American Airlines, we're looking for a highly skilled Technical Lead to join our IT Applications team. As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for providing technical direction and leadership in the design, development, and deployment of solutions within our customer base.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, with experience in leading technical teams and delivering complex projects. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical specifications, anticipating and acting upon issues that arise, and communicating decisions clearly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Responsible for the application design, development, and implementation of large-scale, highly available applications
  • Collaborate with the architect to define the technical roadmap for the product, provide design and technical governance, and dictate technical standards
  • Evaluate product requirements and propose solutions considering the product's vision and the technology roadmap
  • Work closely with architecture to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs
  • Complete appropriate documentation for technical designs, processes engineering, and project decisions
  • Build tools and patterns to accelerate development and delivery
  • Research and implement new technologies and solutions to enhance current processes, security, and performance
  • Develop cross-departmental services and applications in coordination with IT's central architecture team
  • Act as the technical subject matter expert (SME) on the product
  • Evaluate new technologies and tools, lead POCs to prove new ideas, and champion good design practices
  • Mentor and coach team members related to architecture, design, development, build, deployment, and maintenance of systems
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, and identify and implement solutions
  • Collaborate with production operations department to ensure deployments roll out smoothly and customer group support is met
  • Work extended hours, including nights and weekends, as needed in order to support the operation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 5 years of experience delivering SDLC solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 8+ years of experience delivering SDLC solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies
  • 3+ years of experience providing technical leadership
  • Airline industry experience, including Sabre, business processes, and supporting technologies
