Job Overview

Position Summary: The EHS Compliance Manager plays a critical role in overseeing comprehensive environmental compliance initiatives across various media, including air quality, wastewater management, hazardous materials, and stormwater regulations. This position is also accountable for ensuring adherence to OSHA standards, managing worker's compensation claims, and implementing the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations and upkeep of wastewater and stormwater treatment systems, providing troubleshooting support to both manufacturing and maintenance teams.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations, internal policies, and regulatory permits, covering areas such as Hazardous Waste, Wastewater, Clean Air, RCRA, and Storm Water.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team, conducting monthly inspections and maintenance of ERT supplies and equipment.
  • Update the Approved Chemical List with newly authorized chemicals and ensure they are linked to their corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Coordinate and facilitate employee training programs, including New Hire Orientation, monthly safety topics, hazardous waste operations, respiratory protection, bloodborne pathogens, and confined space entry.
  • Oversee medical surveillance and workplace substance abuse prevention initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain the corporate Health and Safety Plan, IIPP, safe practices code, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct quarterly safety meetings and report findings to senior management.
  • Perform accident investigations and root-cause analyses, managing safety incentive and disciplinary programs.
  • Execute monthly chemical inventories in storage areas, prepare for the disposal of expired chemicals, and manage the fire extinguisher inspection program along with safety contingency plans.
  • Conduct audits of health and safety programs and project-specific sites to identify areas for improvement, recommending enhancements to processes and operations to reduce hazards.
  • Maintain and enhance the Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) program in compliance with OSHA regulations, liaising with local fire and industrial waste representatives as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Health and Safety, or a related discipline.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years in Environmental, Health, and Safety operations or programs.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations regarding air, water, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, solid waste, asbestos, and PCBs.
  • In-depth understanding of OSHA and Cal OSHA safety guidelines relevant to construction and environmental sectors, with a proven history of developing and implementing safety training and compliance programs.
  • Experience in California EHS practices, with strong interpersonal skills and writing capabilities.
  • Certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Safety Professional (CSP) is advantageous.
