Opportunity Overview

WSP is actively seeking a Geotechnical and Civil Engineering Specialist to join our dynamic team.

In this position, you will collaborate with a regional team on complex mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical initiatives.

Your Contributions

As part of our mine waste team, you will work on civil and geotechnical engineering projects tailored for the mining sector, with potential opportunities in other fields.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct site and material assessments.
  • Design facilities, including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations.
  • Perform analyses related to slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner systems, and settlement.
  • Execute engineering evaluations for permafrost soils and cold regions, including design and thermal modeling.
  • Design and analyze surface water management facilities.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
  • Assist in developing project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in domestic and international field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and construction oversight.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project tasks.
  • Complete training on assigned responsibilities.

Uphold responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or the ability to complete it within 6 months of starting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the capability to perform engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Comfortable in remote work environments.
  • Commitment to promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effectively conveying ideas to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proficient in technical writing, office automation, software, mathematical principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Strong self-leadership skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record of maintaining workplace safety and adhering to health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary based on project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training is desirable.
