Position Overview

The City of Reno is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to oversee and direct complex civil engineering projects. This role involves leading a team of professionals in the design, construction, and evaluation of municipal infrastructure and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the incumbent will:

  • Lead and mentor engineering staff in executing intricate civil engineering tasks related to municipal projects.
  • Review and assess engineering plans, designs, and specifications to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for inquiries from the public, developers, and various stakeholders regarding engineering projects.
  • Manage project teams, including budget preparation, schedule monitoring, and contract administration.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and provide technical guidance on engineering tests and equipment.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports and documentation, utilizing advanced engineering software and tools.
  • Coordinate with external professionals to ensure project objectives are met efficiently.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive engineering experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Registration as a professional engineer or the ability to obtain such registration in the State of Nevada.

Working Conditions

This position requires both office and fieldwork, with exposure to various environmental conditions. The successful candidate must be able to perform physical tasks associated with site inspections and project evaluations.
