About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team as a Lead. In this role, you will be responsible for the operational and technical management of our laboratory discipline, ensuring proper day-to-day operations and serving as a resource person for problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and technical management of assigned section(s)
  • Ensure proper day-to-day operations of the laboratory discipline and serve as a resource person for problem-solving
  • Respond to changes in workload as necessary and lead adjustments in work assignments in real-time fashion in the absence of the supervisor
  • Perform all procedures within prescribed turnaround times and perform proficiency testing with thorough and timely documentation
  • Demonstrate ability to appropriately prioritize work at all times and call all critical/significant values as soon as available and document action per protocol
  • Enforce adherence to same by others and perform tasks of Medical Laboratory Scientist as needed during periods of peak workload and in the absence of staff members
  • Independently perform all technical duties of the supervisor during their absence
  • Assign tasks to staff scheduled in their section on a daily basis and responsible for training and competency of students and section personnel with appropriate documentation
  • Provide input to supervisor for 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, 6-month, and annual checklists/conversations/performance appraisals
  • Participate in the selection of personnel and lead peer interviewing teams
  • Embrace a culture of safety by ensuring all Infection Control/Safety protocols are followed at all times and maintain Hazardous Chemical logs, ensuring MSD sheets are readily available to staff
  • Disinfect work areas prior to end of each shift and ensure adequate staff on daily basis for assigned areas and arrange for coverage for all unexpected scheduling vacancies in the absence of the supervisor
  • Review applicable regulatory standards and bring any instances of non-compliance to the attention of the section supervisor
  • Assign and rotate proficiency testing samples among all assigned techs and assure proficiency test results are accurately and completely submitted by the required due date
  • Investigate unsuccessful results and ensure proficiency reports are reviewed by all required parties per protocol
  • Review all equipment and maintenance records monthly and monitor instrument records to effectively identify trends that may indicate a problem with instrument performance
  • Assist section supervisor in developing/validating/writing and implementing new procedures
  • Perform, analyze, and report statistical analysis of data and perform linearity studies, calibrations, and patient correlations per protocol
  • Perform and provide for daily review of patient results and perform daily monitoring and monthly submission of QC results and review of charts, compiling PI reports, and ad hoc studies
  • Recommend remedial action, adjust means per protocol, and oversee QC and reagent lot rollovers
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
  • Credential: Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent
  • Experience: Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory
