Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within the Oncology Service Line. Key responsibilities include delivering patient care services to adult and geriatric populations, obtaining vital signs, administering medications, and transporting patients. Additional duties involve maintaining patient confidentiality, complying with HIPAA and Joint Commission regulations, and re-ordering supplies as required.

Key Responsibilities

1. The Advanced Practice Nurse must read and interpret documents such as doctors' orders and lab tests. Perform focal assessments for established inpatients.
2. Provide general basic nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, urinal or bathroom, and weighing.
3. Provide exceptional customer service that aligns with the Planetree philosophy.
4. Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, dressing changes, wound cleansing, obtaining vital signs including orthostatic vital signs and rectal temperatures, and splinting of extremities.
5. Prepare and administer oral medications as ordered by the physician or APC. Review medication history with patient.
6. Assist with minor medical/surgical procedures in the practice setting.
7. Performance of venipuncture for the purpose of blood and to monitor the patient's condition before, during and after the withdrawal of blood.
8. Transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher within offices and to/from vehicles. Assist those patients requiring help with ambulation.
9. Identify the need for patient education and advise patients on their treatment plan.
10. Demonstrate the ability to recognize abnormal lab results.
