Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

This role requires a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. The primary focus is to maintain an effective academic advising framework for undergraduate students.

The responsibilities include:

  3. Addressing inquiries from students and parents regarding graduation and academic progress.

Advising Services

The advisor will:

  • Assist students in understanding departmental and university policies.

  • Write letters of recommendation and support for student appeals.
  • Facilitate student engagement with resources that enhance their academic journey.
  • Identify at-risk students and connect them with appropriate support services.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Collaboration and Record Keeping

The advisor will work closely with university partners to:

  • Engage in recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Provide advising during orientation sessions for new students.
  • Maintain accurate records of advising interactions and student progress.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for the Academic Advisor position include:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of full-time advising experience in a higher education setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to foster a supportive environment for students.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience advising STEM or exploratory students.
  • Background in a STEM discipline.
