Facilities Maintenance Custodian

Job Overview

The Building Services division is in search of a Facilities Maintenance Custodian. This role is designed to enhance the daily cleaning team by undertaking standard custodial tasks and executing specific cleaning projects as designated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily cleaning team by filling in during absences.
  • Perform essential cleaning duties such as waste disposal, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, dusting, waxing, and operating basic mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Areas of responsibility include classrooms, offices, laboratories, restrooms, locker rooms, staircases, hallways, public spaces, elevators, athletic floors, and any other areas requiring regular cleaning within University facilities.
  • Restock restrooms with necessary supplies including hand towels and soap, and carry out related tasks as directed by the supervisor.
  • Execute special cleaning projects which may involve stripping and refinishing floors, carpet cleaning, scrubbing surfaces, cleaning furniture, walls, partitions, windows, and addressing carpet stains.
  • Utilize all equipment employed in the department, such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, burnishers, and other specialized tools.
  • Complete additional cleaning assignments as instructed.
  • Change accessible light bulbs, assist with special event setups, and facilitate the movement of supplies and furniture.
  • Fulfill assigned work orders as needed by University personnel.
  • Clear snow from building entrances and inform the supervisor or submit work orders for equipment or facility repairs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in custodial cleaning.
  • Familiarity with cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and adherence to the University’s Motor Vehicle Records policy.
  • Ability to frequently lift 10 to 25 pounds.
  • A background check will be conducted due to access to sensitive areas.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of campus facilities.
