Technology Support Specialist

Position Summary:
The student employee will deliver technology assistance throughout the campus environment. This role involves collaborating with both staff and students to resolve various technology-related issues. Responsibilities may include working in computer labs, media services, and at the information desk, as well as participating in additional IT projects as required.
Location: Skokie Campus
Employment Duration: Fall semester, with potential for renewal.
Homework Policy: Limited opportunities for homework during work hours.
Available Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:00 am - 10:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Schedule Flexibility: Student schedules may vary based on accepted assignments. Once a schedule is established, students are expected to adhere to it with minimal changes.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Objectives:
- Perform basic troubleshooting for software and hardware issues (TC)
- Assist patrons at service counters and handle incoming calls (PF)
- Record messages and service requests (CM)
- Provide technical support to all users of Oakton's technology resources (CM, TC)
- Offer in-person technology assistance across campus (TW)
- Adhere to college policies regarding equity, wellness, and safety (EI)
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned (TW)

Candidate Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College with a minimum of 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Summer employment is available for students enrolled in at least one credit course or those maintaining registration for the upcoming Fall semester.
- Must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good academic standing.
- Completion of introductory computer courses is preferred.
- Familiarity with common applications such as Microsoft Office and GSuite is preferred.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware is preferred.
- Knowledge of current operating systems and web browsers is preferred.
- Experience in customer service is preferred.
- Understanding of audio/visual setups is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are preferred.
- Video conferencing skills are preferred.
- Must demonstrate friendliness, flexibility, organization, courtesy, and punctuality.
- Availability for some evening and weekend hours is optional.
