Mental Health Specialist II Job Description

Rutgers The State University is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist II to join our team at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. As a key member of our Child and Adolescent Services team, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive youth development activities, case management, and supportive counseling to students in the South Brunswick School District.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage students and family members in a tactful and empathetic manner.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Provide supportive individual and group psycho-educational activities in a therapeutic and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with school district personnel to identify and design youth development workshops and activities.
  • Ensure that the expressed needs and strengths of the individual served drive service delivery.

Requirements:

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human services field or a bachelor's degree in a relevant mental health or human services field.
  • Active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work (for applicants with a degree in Social Work).

Working Conditions:

  • Time spent in a school environment.
  • Some travel to student homes and community agencies.
  • Exposure to moderate noise and unpredictable situations.
