Overview:

The Lead Technologist is tasked with executing, assessing, and documenting technical laboratory processes on patient samples, essential for diagnosing and treating illnesses. This role adheres to established protocols to maintain laboratory quality control and comply with professional standards. The Lead Technologist may also undertake administrative duties within the laboratory section, taking on additional technical or non-technical tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Timely reporting of test results in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • May act as the lead for a specific laboratory section.
  • Effectively manages resources, including productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Plans and executes work responsibilities efficiently and productively.
  • Assists in coordinating services, prioritizing tasks, and fostering decision-making/problem-solving skills.
  • Mentors and instructs student technologists and new or existing staff.
  • Conducts precise and appropriate testing of laboratory specimens, following established protocols.
  • May serve as the Laboratory Safety and/or Quality Officer.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and laboratory policies.
  • Provides feedback on team members' performance and assists with ongoing compliance and regulatory obligations.
  • May evaluate the competency of team members.

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Associates: Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Required)
  • Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)

Additional Information:

Complexity of Work: Requires intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation, effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, and familiarity with laboratory information systems. Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment are essential.

Required Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is necessary.

Other Information: A state license as either a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Supervisor is mandatory, along with qualifications in the relevant area of responsibility. A Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science is preferred.
