Water Systems Maintenance Specialist

The primary objective of this role is to gather and analyze water samples while performing installation, inspection, testing, repair, and replacement of water meters and backflow prevention devices.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts testing, repairs, and replacements of water metering devices.
  • Addresses customer inquiries and resolves complaints effectively.
  • Executes routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow-offs in problematic areas of the water distribution system.
  • Prepares analytical reports and documents findings from inspections, testing, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensures maintenance, calibration, and cleanliness of all necessary tools and equipment.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

Knowledge Base:

  • Familiarity with applicable local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Understanding of utility service principles and practices;
  • Proficiency with tools and equipment relevant to the trade.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment. Failure to secure this license may lead to termination.
  • Capability to achieve North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six months of employment. Failure to obtain this certification may result in termination.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting data.
  • Competent in operating computers and relevant software applications.
  • Skilled in using testing equipment and instruments.
  • Knowledgeable in applying local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.

Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with at least six months to one year of advanced study, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
