The Defense Systems Group (DSG) delivers analysis-driven decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat mitigation, shaping future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace, as it not only directly assists major clients, including the United States Space Force, the Department of the Air Force, the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior Pentagon leadership, but also offers a wide array of services and support throughout the national space enterprise, maintaining both vertical and horizontal responsibilities.

Aerospace's Strategic and Global Awareness Directorate (Project West Wing) conducts technical intelligence analysis and research for a diverse range of national security space and intelligence community clients. Our team aims to deliver unique, timely, and independent evaluations and guidance regarding current and prospective threats to space utilization and the efficacy of strategic deterrents. Actively engage in a high-performing team that applies technical expertise to analyze the rapidly evolving landscape of international space technologies and their implications for U.S. National Security Space. Participate in various technical endeavors, collaborate with technical intelligence, assess threats to space initiatives, and influence critical decisions on significant National Security Space issues. Opportunities exist to cultivate your own areas of expertise and specialization in analyzing space and missile systems.

Work Model

This position requires on-site presence at a designated facility. Teleworking is not an option.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the potential implications of global space and counterspace activities on U.S. national security space operations
  • Leverage intelligence sources to conduct engineering analyses aimed at identifying and mitigating space-based threats
  • Perform comprehensive technical evaluations of current and future space systems
  • Develop algorithms to analyze and integrate various information sets, employing advanced data analytics techniques
  • Identify emerging concerns in Space Domain Awareness and proactively propose recommendations for enhanced global data collection and research
  • Recognize both short- and long-term technical challenges for a diverse clientele, including the USAF/USSF and the Intelligence Community
  • Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and other deliverables
  • Critically evaluate reports and materials produced by team members
  • Support and cultivate client relationships
  • Occasional travel may be required for presentations and meetings with personnel and government agencies.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or Mathematics
  • Six or more years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with space systems engineering, satellite operations, or a data analytics background in a space context
  • A strong inclination for in-depth technical analysis
  • A proactive, quick learner capable of thriving in a dynamic, high-visibility environment with regular engagement with government executives
  • A highly motivated self-starter with the ability to conduct independent analysis and collaborate effectively
  • A keen interest in understanding global space activities and operations
  • A mission-focused mindset with a commitment to making a significant impact
  • Ability to analyze technical data, derive innovative insights, and communicate findings effectively
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept at collaborating with other analysts and conveying information to senior military and civilian clients
  • Flexibility to acquire new tools and capabilities as necessary
  • A passion for solving complex problems
  • This position requires an Active TS/SCI clearance, issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is necessary to obtain a security clearance.
  • Willingness to undergo a CI Polygraph examination

In addition to the above, the Senior Project Engineer role necessitates:

  • 12 or more years of relevant technical experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in space systems engineering, satellite operations, or data analytics in a space context
  • A capability to mentor other analysts and enhance data processing methodologies
  • Collaboration with government clients to identify new project opportunities
  • Effective prioritization of tasks based on various factors (e.g., impact, relevance, findings)
  • Confidence in communicating insights and their significance to senior leadership

Desirable Attributes

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Advanced degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics
  • Experience in space systems engineering, space domain awareness, or related fields
  • Understanding of EO sensor systems
  • Familiarity with RF systems
  • Knowledge of astrodynamics fundamentals and experience with analysis tools such as STK or SOAP
  • Proficiency in Python or other programming languages
  • Experience in integrating and analyzing information from multiple sources
  • Prior experience with DoD and IC agencies
  • Reading comprehension and translation skills in selected foreign languages are a plus
