Job Title: Laboratory Support Tech II, PRN

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, this role collects blood samples by performing venipunctures or finger or heel sticks on patients. The successful candidate will ensure the quality of blood and prioritize the safety and comfort of patients, adhering to established standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collect venous and/or capillary blood specimens according to established procedures.
  2. Utilize a computerized system for logging and tracking specimen collection and patient information. Properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, and storage.
  3. Perform accurate and complete order entry and perform order checking of requisitions for proper data entry.
  4. May operate simple medical laboratory equipment, such as a centrifuge and microscope.
  5. Effectively communicate with laboratory and medical staff to resolve problems and concerns regarding specimens and to properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, or storage.
  6. Monitor pending work and resolve specimen issues as needed.
  7. Sort laboratory reports/mail and distribute them to appropriate mailboxes.
  8. Perform inventory and ordering of supplies, including requisitions for distribution to clients. Rotate stock to ensure outdating does not occur.
  9. Fulfill all supply requests for client needs.
  10. Respond to telephone inquiries for test results, specimen status, or other general inquiries. Communicate abnormal values to providers as necessary.
  11. Assist with training new team members as needed.
Qualifications

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy is preferred. Certification as a registered phlebotomist by a nationally recognized Phlebotomy Society, such as the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, is preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years of work experience as a phlebotomist is preferred. Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
