The Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing payroll, accounting, and administrative tasks to support the payroll team. This includes processing payroll, establishing voluntary deductions, auditing payroll, generating and reviewing audit reports, and addressing any issues that may arise.
Key Responsibilities:1. Payroll Support:
- Gather, compile, and input payroll data utilizing the appropriate software.
- Experience with union payroll processing and reporting is preferred.
- Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and on time.
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed payroll records.
- Calculate garnishments, including child support, tax levies, and student loans.
- Record changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions and loan payments, to update master payroll records.
- Prepare periodic reports detailing earnings, taxes, and deductions.
- Investigate and rectify any payroll discrepancies and errors.
- Address employee payroll-related inquiries and provide accurate information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
2. Client Relations:
- Review and respond promptly (within 24 hours) to all cases assigned in the system.
- Timely respond to all client inquiries.
- Address all wage and tax notices by the deadline and assist in preparing for hearings.
3. Compliance with Government Regulations:
- Adhere to all state and federal laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Safeguard the company from potential liabilities and exposures.
4. Professional Development:
- Stay informed on changes to state and federal laws through ongoing education and publications.
- Continue to enhance skills and knowledge as a payroll professional through continuous learning.
- Share insights that contribute to personal and company growth.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience with Darwin/Prism is preferred but not mandatory.
Skills: Effective written and verbal communication, attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving abilities, time management, ethical conduct, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is essential.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of payroll experience is required.
