Position Overview:
The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee the operations of the Medical Supply Technician team. This role is critical in ensuring the effective management of reusable medical equipment (RME) within a complex healthcare environment.

Facility Description:
The VA Portland Health Care System operates as a comprehensive healthcare provider, delivering a wide range of services across multiple locations, including outpatient and inpatient care, as well as residential and community services.

Essential Qualifications:
Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens, with non-citizens considered only when qualified citizens are unavailable.
Experience and Education:
1. A minimum of six months of relevant experience or
2. One year of post-secondary education in healthcare-related fields, or
3. A combination of experience and education that meets the entry-level qualifications.

Language Proficiency:
All candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English.

Grade Level Requirements:
For GS-08: Candidates must possess one year of experience at the GS-07 level and demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Effective management and interpersonal skills
- Capability to direct and oversee staff and operations
- Proficiency in supervising all aspects of RME processes
- Competence in performing a full range of supervisory duties, including work assignment, evaluation, and staff development.

Key Responsibilities:
The Supervisory Medical Supply Technician will:
- Lead a team of MSTs, ensuring efficient workflow and task management.
- Monitor attendance and manage leave requests.
- Communicate with higher management regarding staffing needs and workload changes.
- Recommend personnel actions such as promotions and training opportunities.
- Address employee concerns and collaborate with union representatives as necessary.

Physical and Technical Requirements:
The role demands a thorough understanding of RME processes, adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the ability to operate various sterilization and cleaning equipment. Responsibilities include:
- Receiving and processing contaminated instruments from various clinical areas.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of all medical instruments.
- Preparing and organizing surgical instrument sets for diverse medical procedures.

Work Schedule:
This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Telework is not available for this role.
