The Surgical Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for assisting with direct patient care activities during medical procedures. The Surgical Technician prepares and stocks the OR before and after surgery, gathering and organizing clean and sterile supplies. They set sterile instrument fields, maintain and monitor aseptic techniques, and assist with the orientation of new staff and participate on departmental committees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with direct patient care activities during medical procedures
- Ensure a safe environment and proper equipment function
- Prepare and stock the OR before and after surgery
- Maintain and monitor aseptic techniques
- Assist with the orientation of new staff and participate on departmental committees
Requirements:
- Successful completion of an accredited course in surgical technology
- Completion of clinical training in an acute care perioperative setting, preferably in an academic medical center
- Ability to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, and understanding of medical terminology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of a national Scrub Technician certification
Licenses and Certifications:
- BLS
