Position Summary:

The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive officer of Three Rivers Business Alliance, responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organization. This senior management position requires a strong leader who can develop and implement the organization's strategic plan, build relationships with stakeholders, and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy:
    • Develop and implement the strategic plan, aligning with the organization's mission, vision, and goals.
    • Provide visionary leadership and direction to staff, volunteers, and members.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the organization.
    • Recruit, train, and support board members and committee participants.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
    • Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial stability and accountability.
    • Monitor financial operations to ensure timely compliance with the organization's budget.
    • Supervise, mentor, and support staff, promoting professional growth and development.
    • Collaborate with the boards on staff hiring, evaluation, and termination decisions.
    • Recruit and support volunteers to achieve programmatic and operational needs.
  • Community Engagement and Advocacy:
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for Three Rivers Business Alliance, representing the organization to the public, media, and stakeholders.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations.
    • Advocate for policies and initiatives that support economic development, business growth, and LGBTQ+ business concerns in the region.
  • Fundraising, Membership, and Development:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial support from diverse sources.
    • Develop membership and oversee membership growth and retention plans, achieving membership goals.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
    • Recruit and facilitate membership involvement and growth, responding to the needs of current and potential members.
    • Identify funding opportunities and prepare grant applications, ensuring compliance and completing grant reporting.
    • Identify, approach, and secure sponsorships from businesses and organizations to support events and initiatives.
  • Marketing and Program Development Implementation:
    • Identify member needs and design programs and services that meet those needs, ensuring effective delivery and evaluation.
    • Foster effective communication with the community and members, promoting the brand of Three Rivers Business Alliance and its foundation.
  • Board Governance:
    • Work closely with the boards to fulfill the organization's mission and strategic goals.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the boards on organizational performance, finances, and initiatives.
    • Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and development of board members and committees.

Qualifications:

Required:

Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a nonprofit organization, business association, or similar environment.

Skills:

  • Proven leadership and management skills with a track record of success.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budget development and management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Foster relationships with DEI leadership.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and development activities.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in public speaking and media relations.

Preferred:

Experience working with LGBTQIA+ communities and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within these communities.

Understanding of certification processes for minority business enterprises.

Experience in managing a membership-based organization.

Knowledge of nonprofit governance and best practices.

Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and innovation.

Knowledge of the Pittsburgh and Greater Allegheny region and its business landscape.

Familiarity with digital tools and platforms for community engagement and management.
