The Genomics Technologist plays a vital role in the Molecular Biology Core Facilities at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, performing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) sample quality control, library preparation, and sequencing analysis. This position requires adherence to applicable regulations and standards established by DFCI and EH&S, as well as operation, calibration, and maintenance of NGS instruments and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain genomics instrumentation, including data acquisition for patient and research samples, calibration, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Perform quality control duties and document QC/QA activities as defined in policies and SOPs.
- Participate in validation of new instruments and methods, and continuously look for ways to improve existing processes.
- Prepare and maintain genomics-related reagents, and accurately produce and document processing data.
- Communicate outcomes to appropriate supervisors and/or investigators, and evaluate test results and analyze assays for acceptability.
- Perform other duties and procedures as required or assigned.
- Minimum Education: BS/BA in a Biological Science, Medical Technology, or related field required.
- Minimum Experience: 0 years of experience required, some experience in a molecular biology research laboratory setting preferred.
- Knowledge of operation and performance of basic lab equipment, lab safety, infection control, and understanding of lab policies and procedures.
- Ability to use a wide variety of analytical techniques and instrumentation, and adapt to changing technology.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with staff, management, and physicians.
