Position Overview:
The Senior Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations while managing training and program initiatives. This position provides expert guidance to guarantee that all regulatory obligations relevant to the facility are thoroughly understood and met. The specialist is tasked with planning, organizing, and executing environmental, health, and safety operations within the facility, while also monitoring activities to ensure compliance with both regulatory and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all management personnel and relevant operational staff are informed about current and forthcoming regulatory obligations, permit stipulations, and other limitations imposed by federal, state, and local authorities.
- Assist in developing processes to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards present in the workplace.
- Deliver and monitor training programs to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards.
- Establish and uphold necessary OSHA compliance initiatives and procedures.
- Provide industrial hygiene support as necessary to assess employee exposure to noise and other health risks.
- Lead the creation and execution of new environmental initiatives.
- Support the formulation and implementation of innovative health and safety programs.
- Oversee all mandatory compliance assurance-monitoring activities related to air, water, and waste at the facility, including DOT regulations.
- Maintain accurate chemical inventory records to meet regulatory tracking requirements.
- Conduct training sessions for staff regarding environmental, health, and safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Assist in investigating environmental incidents, performing root cause analyses, and developing corrective measures as necessary.
- Engage with regulatory agencies as required.
- Provide leadership and support for the implementation and sustainability of the Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) process.
- Act as the Emergency Response Coordinator for the facility, coordinating emergency services and contractors, which requires on-call availability.
- Champion the adoption of EHS Management systems (VPP, ISO, OHSAS).
- Ensure alignment of safety policies and procedures across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline or a related field pertinent to health, safety, and environmental practices is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety within a manufacturing context is essential.
- Familiarity with various safety regulations or standards (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, etc.) and experience in implementing EHS systems while providing training to meet compliance requirements.
- Experience in developing both proactive and preventative safety programs and procedures aimed at reducing incidents and accidents.
- Background in assisting with environmental and safety incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the formulation of corrective actions.
- Proven experience in providing leadership and support for the implementation and sustainability of the BBS process.
- Experience serving as an Emergency Response Coordinator, facilitating the coordination of emergency services and contractors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification is highly desirable.
