Job Summary

The Resident Assistant, Student Employee is a vital role within the Residential Life department at Lindenwood University. This position is responsible for fostering a healthy and positive residential environment that promotes student success and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement programs that align with the Residential Life Experience Lindenwood (ResXL) curriculum, promoting student development and community building.
  • Support the mission of Lindenwood University and serve as an ambassador of the institution's values and culture.
  • Model and promote the University's values of integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of special events and programs that enhance the residential experience.
  • Lead floor meetings and assist with student check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Conduct building walkthroughs to address policy violations and document incidents.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the residence hall.
  • Maintain scheduled hours to engage with residents and complete assigned building tasks.
  • Promote campus engagement by encouraging residents' attendance at university events.
  • Refer students experiencing emotional, academic, or other hardships to appropriate resources.
  • Develop mentor/mentee relationships by having intentional conversations with residents.
  • Respond to the needs of students, colleagues, and community members in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Promote student engagement and community by supporting activities and displaying a positive attitude towards students and staff.
  • Communicate consistently with residential community coordinators (RCCs) about residents' needs.
  • Attend scheduled residential life meetings, team-building events, and training activities.
  • Assist in the creation of engaging content for residence hall social media accounts.
  • MEDIATE ROOMMATE CONFLICT.
  • Collect, organize, and compose correspondence for department staff.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled at Lindenwood University.
  • Primary residence in campus housing.
  • Good academic and financial standing with the University.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive University or constituent information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use good judgement, think critically, and make on-the-spot, informed decisions pertaining to residential situations.
  • Ability to confront sensitive situations effectively and constructively.
  • Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply University policies and procedures.
Work Environment
  • This position should be the employee's main priority outside of academics.
  • Appropriate dress required.
  • Non-Standard Flex.
Physical Abilities
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to inventory all facilities in assigned area.
