Position Overview
Covanta is looking for an Operational Efficiency Manager to join our team in the East Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet productivity benchmarks and enhance AEBITDA contributions.
  • Boost shareholder value by spearheading projects aimed at reducing operational costs and increasing revenue streams.
  • Enhance Boiler On-Line Time by directing the creation of tactical plans to minimize Unscheduled Downtime at underperforming facilities.
  • Increase Capacity by leading the formulation of tactical plans to optimize production and throughput at challenged sites.
  • Maximize plant AEBITDA contributions by overseeing the development of tactical plans to lower operating expenses.
  • Provide regional oversight to ensure facilities meet productivity goals and develop recovery strategies when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with plant and regional leaders to ensure productivity targets are met and escalate issues as needed.
  • Accurately monitor hard and soft cost savings linked to productivity objectives.
  • Deliver monthly updates to senior leadership on progress towards fleet productivity goals.
  • Utilize and enhance methodologies such as process control, Lean, DMAIC, DOE, Six Sigma, and LSW.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Green Belts and other team members to foster a culture of excellence.
  • Quickly leverage successful projects for replication across the fleet to achieve or surpass productivity targets.
  • Oversee productivity-related training and development, including Green Belt Certification.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and comply with the company’s safety program.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in engineering or manufacturing. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred, or a Green Belt that completes Black Belt certification within 18 months.

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in plant operations (energy from waste, power, chemical, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or process). Proven experience in leading productivity projects across multiple facilities or regions.

Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong financial acumen with a solid understanding of Plant P&L. Attention to detail for data accuracy and integrity. Proven leadership, coaching, mentoring, and team-building capabilities. Knowledge of benchmarking strategies to identify and replicate best practices. Strong project management skills to ensure timely and budget-compliant implementation of improvements. Excellent problem-solving and change management skills.

Other Requirements:
Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Black Belt or Green Belt with a commitment to complete Black Belt certification within 18 months). Willingness to travel across the region/fleet as needed, with approximately 30-50% travel expected to support plant initiatives. Spend 40-50% of time leading hands-on projects.
