Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality patient care and leading our hand focus/ambulatory team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert occupational therapy services to patients with hand and upper limb injuries or conditions, including assessment, treatment, and education.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Supervise and educate staff therapists, assistants, and aides to ensure high-quality patient care and consistent application of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manage patient charges and hospital equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, accreditation, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience, with a strong background in hand rehabilitation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and train staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of stress and mental fatigue.
  • Physical stamina to perform prolonged walking and standing, lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients and equipment.
Working Conditions
  • Works in a hospital environment, with some exposure to blood/body fluids/hazardous materials, communicable diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • May be required to work with critically ill patients, which can result in high levels of stress and mental fatigue.
  • May be required to work with newborns to the oldest old, with a strong understanding of growth and development principles.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists with supervision and education of staff therapists, assistants, and aides.

Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Manages patient charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Manages hospital and department equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
Hospital Wide Responsibilities
  • Complies with legal, regulatory, accreditation, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
  • Fulfills any training required by the hospital and/or Partners, as appropriate.
