Job Title: Admissions Counselor

Join the Houston Christian University team as an Admissions Counselor, responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and admissions process with prospective students. This role involves recruiting high school and transfer students, initiating contact with students, parents, counselors, and teachers, and communicating the benefits of Houston Christian University's STEM majors and academic programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a recruitment territory and/or population focused on STEM majors, contacting, visiting, and informing prospective students about HCU programs, culture, mission, and life on campus.
  • Articulate the University's mission to various constituents, acting as a liaison between HCU and area college counselors/administrators, students, parents, alumni, corporations, and/or governmental agencies.
  • Initiate, plan, and execute special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Serve as a liaison with the College of Science & Engineering to meet with them regularly to understand and clearly articulate those programs to prospective students.
  • Develop and implement specific recruitment projects and management tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HCU's academic, spiritual, recreational, social, extra-curricular, and financial aid programs, and communicate this information to prospective students.
  • Encourage a healthy and productive working relationship between the Enrollment Management Division and other HCU offices.
  • Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, conversions, personal schedule, travel, special programs, and/or expense reports.
  • Telephones and/or emails prospective students, exhibiting a consistent effort to contact them.
  • Attend Enrollment Management staff meetings and be prepared to report on management tasks that were previously assigned.
  • Maintain a steady flow of communication via email, traditional mail, and social media, and phone calls with prospective students and applied students to establish a relationship between the student and HCU.
  • Work periodic weekends, evenings, and travel locally and out-of-state.
  • Participate in weekly/evening phoning.
  • Will be cross-trained in enrollment processes for other student populations and cover appointments as needed.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with college faculty, staff, administration, students, and members of the community and the public.
  • Must be proficient with technology. Knowledge of Slate CRM and Banner database systems is a plus.
Working Conditions and Environment:

There is considerable amount of travel required of this position. Houston Christian University is an independent, private Christian liberal arts institution with a diverse student body. It has access to all the cultural advantages of one of the largest metropolitan centers in the country.
