Chief Art Executive

The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is recognized for its extensive private collection of artworks, including paintings, prints, sculptures, and multiples, making it one of the largest in the United States. We are in search of a Chief Art Executive who will:
- Collaborate with Jordan Schnitzer on strategic planning for the art collection and exhibition initiatives.
- Oversee a dedicated team of 11 professionals responsible for acquisitions, exhibition publications, and a dynamic exhibition program featuring around eight exhibitions that travel to numerous museums nationwide each year.
- Establish and nurture relationships with art galleries, museums, publishers, and artists.
The Jordan Schnitzer Family Art Program boasts a remarkable portfolio of over 21,000 artworks, including 500 glass pieces, 5,000 paintings and sculptures, and 15,000 prints and multiples, along with approximately 1,000 Native American artifacts. For three decades, the program has facilitated over 160 exhibitions at 120 museums across the country at no cost to these institutions. Our current team of 11 is seeking a qualified individual to lead the art collection and exhibition program, ideally someone with prior experience as a museum director and a strong background in collaboration with curators and art administrative staff.
Recognizing the significance of art in educational settings, we have supported the establishment of university museums and are actively pursuing additional partnerships. While we do not directly operate these museums, we maintain an annual exhibition presence at three institutions and aim to fund and develop more university art museums, including plans for our own.
The collection expands by approximately 1,000 artworks annually and is safeguarded within long-term estate plans to ensure its perpetual operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct the daily operations and management of the Jordan Schnitzer Family Art Program, including supervising staff such as the Director of Collections, Exhibition Registrar, and other coordinators.
- Define work priorities and communicate effectively with all team members.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring proper systems and financial controls are in place.
- Ensure exhibitions are installed correctly and align with the foundation's values.
- Lead community outreach initiatives, oversee lecture series and events, and enhance the visibility of the Jordan Schnitzer Family Art Program.
- Manage acquisition processes and conservation efforts for the collection.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We actively seek individuals who promote a collegial atmosphere and collaborative interactions with colleagues, students, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with five to ten years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Ten years of experience in an art museum or similar organization.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of current issues in the museum profession.
- Proven leadership skills with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Expertise in the selection, conservation, and exhibition of artworks, along with knowledge of legal regulations governing collections.
- Understanding of budgeting principles and effective communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to manage projects and initiatives creatively and strategically.
The Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant based on race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class.
