The Physical Therapist delivers advanced therapeutic interventions in the field of Physical Therapy. Responsibilities include conducting and interpreting assessments, as well as providing clinical and consultative services to clients.

Key tasks may involve evaluating and treating wounds, assessing gait issues, managing pain, offering acute care/restorative services, conducting circulatory assessments, and evaluating and fabricating orthotic, seating, mobility, and positioning devices, along with other specialized treatment modalities for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Therapist is responsible for planning, developing, and executing intricate physical nutritional management programs and treatment protocols aimed at enhancing or maintaining the individual's health and functional capabilities.

Monitoring and analyzing data related to services and devices is essential; participation in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and contributing to the development of Individual Support Plans (ISP) is also required. The Therapist will engage in staff training and mentoring regarding devices and strategies, and collaborate on treatment planning with the IDT.

In addition, the Therapist will take part in quality assurance and enhancement initiatives concerning therapeutic service delivery at both the facility and state levels, as needed.

This role may involve overseeing departmental staff and coordinating student internships or educational programs, as well as conducting research on therapeutic outcomes and practices.

Independence in work is expected, with minimal supervision and significant latitude for initiative and judgment.


Core Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is required, with the possibility of specific shift schedules, rotating shifts, extended hours, or overtime in accordance with agency policies, alongside other assigned duties.

Oversee evaluation, treatment, clinical services, and specialized modalities for individuals with multiple physical disabilities and serious medical conditions.

Develop and implement complex physical nutritional management programs and treatment protocols to enhance or sustain consumer health and functionality.

Analyze assessments, progress reports, incident reports, and medical consultations while participating in quality assurance and enhancement activities related to therapeutic services.


Supervise and assign tasks to other staff members.

Engage in IDT/ISP meetings to facilitate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Maintain consistent communication with other departments, IDTs, and administration to ensure seamless information transfer and service continuity.


Responsible for documentation in the designated system.

Write, review, and analyze assessments, progress reports, incident reports, and medical consultations.

Oversee the planning, scheduling, and production of orthopedic equipment, including maintenance and repair programs, and design specifications for custom and adaptive equipment.


Coordinate student internship programs for universities.


Additional responsibilities may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may necessitate alternate shift patterns or locations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Comprehensive understanding of clinical therapeutic evaluation and treatment principles, particularly for individuals with cognitive impairments and developmental disabilities.


Proficiency in evaluating, prescribing, and providing seating, mobility, positioning, orthotic, or assistive devices.

Ability to convey general and specific information regarding health conditions, anatomy, physiology, and treatment techniques to individuals with varying levels of understanding.


Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Competence in producing reports, progress notes, and assessments using technology.

Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, foster teamwork, and assume leadership roles as necessary.

Skilled in utilizing rehabilitation and orthopedic equipment, materials, and tools, as well as in repairing therapy equipment.


Ability to conduct assessments, develop programs, administer therapy, and coordinate program activities.
