The Physical Therapist delivers specialized therapeutic services in the field of Physical Therapy. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, interpreting results, and providing clinical and consultative services to clients.
Responsibilities may encompass evaluating and treating wounds, assessing gait issues, managing pain, providing acute care/restorative services, conducting circulatory studies, and evaluating and fabricating orthotic, seating, mobility, and positioning devices, alongside other specialized treatment modalities for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The Therapist is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing intricate physical nutritional management programs and treatment protocols aimed at enhancing or maintaining the individual's health and functional capabilities.
Additionally, the Therapist monitors and analyzes data related to services and devices, participates in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings, contributes to the development of individual service plans (ISP), and provides training and mentorship to staff regarding devices and strategies.
Involvement in quality assurance and enhancement initiatives concerning therapeutic services at both the facility and state levels is also expected.
The Therapist may oversee departmental staff, coordinate student internships, and engage in research related to therapeutic outcomes and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Regular attendance is required, with potential for specific shift schedules, rotating shifts, and overtime as needed, in accordance with agency policies. Additional duties may be assigned.
The Therapist evaluates, treats, and oversees clinical services and specialized modalities for individuals with complex physical disabilities and serious medical conditions.
Develops and implements comprehensive physical nutritional management programs and treatment protocols to enhance or sustain the consumer's health and functionality.
Reviews and assesses progress reports, incident reports, and medical consultations, contributing to quality assurance and enhancement activities related to therapeutic services.
Supervises and assigns tasks to team members.
Participates in IDT/ISP meetings to facilitate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Maintains effective communication with other departments, IDTs, and administration to ensure the seamless transfer of information and continuity of services.
Responsible for accurate documentation in the designated systems.
Prepares, reviews, and analyzes assessments, progress reports, incident reports, and medical consultations.
Oversees the planning, scheduling, and production of orthopedic equipment, along with maintenance and repair programs, and develops specifications for custom and adaptive equipment.
Coordinates student internship programs with local universities.
Additional responsibilities may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient understanding of clinical therapeutic evaluation principles and their application for individuals with cognitive impairments and developmental disabilities.
Ability to evaluate, prescribe, and provide appropriate seating, mobility, positioning, orthotic, or assistive devices.
Capable of conveying general and specific information regarding health treatments, intellectual and developmental disabilities, anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic techniques to individuals with varying levels of understanding.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in producing reports, progress notes, and assessments using computer technology.
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, promote teamwork, and assume leadership roles as necessary.
Skilled in utilizing rehabilitation and orthopedic equipment, materials, and tools, as well as repairing therapy equipment.
Competent in conducting assessments, developing programs, administering therapy, and coordinating program activities.
