Funeral Director Job Description

At Service Corporation International, we celebrate lives and honor our associates. As a Funeral Director, you will play a vital role in facilitating funeral arrangement discussions with next of kin and presiding over visitation, funeral, and graveside services. Your expertise will ensure compliance with local, state, or federal laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Arrangements Conferences with next of kin, assessing their needs and summarizing desired outcomes.
  • Discuss available life insurance and benefits, such as Veteran services, and promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services and merchandise.
  • Transition Arrangement Conferences to Funeral Services Counselors/Advisors to present cemetery property and merchandise options, pricing, and contract completion.
  • Review and authorize merchandise and service contract revisions.
Directing Services:
  • Confirm authorization to proceed with service arrangements and preside as Master of Ceremonies (MC) for visitation, funeral, or graveside services.
  • Visually inspect deceased, adjust casket dressing, and communicate concerns to preparation staff.
  • Interact with families to fulfill death care requests and obtain leads for pre-need services.
Event Planning:
  • Perform event planning responsibilities, including resource planning and ordering of music, flowers, or catering to fulfill arrangement requests.
  • Produce Memorial products, such as scanning photos, ordering memorabilia, and creating electronic presentations.
  • Prepare event rooms, including setup and cleanup, and courier/deliver family memorabilia to homes.
General:
  • Work under general guidance, applying licensure to business environments and complying with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Take the initiative to discuss assignments, expectations, priorities, and deadlines, and seek guidance and coaching from managers.

Requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science.
  • Current Funeral Director license within the practicing state.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience.

Work Conditions:

  • Environment: Work is both indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather.
  • Attire: Professional business attire required when in contact with families.
  • Physical Demands: Physical effort requiring manual dexterity, including paperwork, calculators, computers, and phone usage.

Compensation:

Salary: $16.00/hr

Benefits:

Part-time associates working an average 20 hours a week may be eligible for 401(k).
