Job Title: Geographic Information Systems Analyst II

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Geographic Information Systems Analyst II to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and producing thematic maps and other applications using GIS software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage data entry projects to produce thematic map data and reports using GIS software.
  • Design and produce thematic map data and applications.
  • Write computer programs to format data and assist in developing and maintaining the database for map production.
  • Develop workflow systems to ensure efficient and timely updating.
  • Manage datum and projections to ensure proper overlay of data sets and convert projections as necessary.
  • Develop metadata format.
  • Meet with department representatives to develop and determine GIS needs.
  • Research, analyze, and design GIS projects and applications requiring writing programs to meet user's needs.
  • Determine appropriate security systems.
  • Conduct more complex GIS analysis involving statistics, multiple data sets, and appropriate extensions.
  • Prepare reports with tables, charts, or map layouts.
  • Manage aerial photograph and remote sensing projects and investigate and verify geographic and land use data by making physical inspections.
  • Analyze and interpret aerial photographs or hard copy maps to delineate elevations, wetlands, vegetation, agricultural, urban land, and other geographic and land use characteristics.
  • Enter delineated map data and descriptive information into GIS through digitizing, key entry, scanning, converting computer aided drafting (CAD) files, global positioning system (GPS) coordinates, hyperlinking to other files, or other standard map data entry procedures.
  • Develop and maintain project files.
  • Train departmental employees in GIS as requested.
  • May supervise and review the work of assigned personnel.
  • Assist other agencies and the public with information requests or prepare information to be made available to the public.
  • May operate a vehicle to perform work-related duties.

Requirements:

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, urban or land use planning, computer science, or a related field.
  • Two years of responsible experience using GIS software in design and production of thematic maps and other applications.
  • One year of which shall have included the design and maintenance of GIS data sets.
  • Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver license at time of filing.
