POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is integral to the YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization focused on community enhancement through youth development, health promotion, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Staff are tasked with ensuring the safety and supervision of children in the Child Watch and Family Activity Center. They work collaboratively to design and implement educational and enrichment programs for youth, while also engaging closely with families to ensure optimal care for children aged 6 weeks to 11 years.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Seeking candidates available Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM to work with our youngest members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist or lead in the creation and execution of engaging programs, including activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, and special events for youth and families.
  2. Maintain accurate attendance records for participants, ensuring active engagement and positive experiences.
  3. Supervise and support children, fostering a safe environment conducive to emotional and social growth.
  4. Understand and apply all safety, emergency, and child protection policies, responding appropriately to emergencies as per YMCA protocols.
  5. Engage in ongoing communication with families regarding their child's involvement in activities and behaviors, fostering connections to the YMCA.
  6. Participate in assigned committees, attend regular staff meetings, and advocate for the YMCA within the local community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Preferred two years of experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 11 years.
  • Completion of YMCA-specific training upon hiring.
  • Ability to cultivate positive, genuine relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to move by bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Regular exposure to communicable diseases necessitates frequent handwashing and use of disinfectants.
  • Must remain stationary, upright, and alert for extended periods.
  • Frequent interaction with youth requires effective oral communication and active listening skills.
  • Regularly required to lift and assist children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Typical noise levels in the work environment are moderate.

COMPENSATION: Starting pay is $14.00 per hour.
